Artists For Unity Inc (“Artists For Unity,” “AFU,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a nonprofit organization based in Irvine, California, recognized as a tax-exempt charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (EIN 99-4993653). We help Jewish creatives meet each other, fund their work, show their work, and get into rooms they could not get into alone.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through this website (the “Site”) and in connection with donations and communications, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the Site, you acknowledge this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Site. Our Terms of Service also apply to your use of the Site.
1. Information We Collect
We keep data collection to what we need to run the Site and process donations. The Site has no user accounts, no sign-up or contact forms, and no comment sections. The information we receive falls into these groups:
Donation information. When you donate, you enter your details in a secure checkout window operated by Double, the donation platform we use. Depending on what the checkout asks for, this can include your name, email address, billing or mailing address, donation amount and frequency, the campaign you are giving to, and any optional note or dedication. Your card or bank details are entered directly with our payment processor, Stripe, through Double. We do not see or store your full card or bank account number. We receive a record of your donation, including your name, contact details, the amount, the date, and the type of payment method.
Messages you send us. If you email us, or message or comment on our Instagram account, we receive the information you provide, such as your name, email address, and the content of your message.
Technical and usage information. The Site is built and hosted on Framer. When you visit, our hosting provider and analytics tools automatically receive information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, the pages you view, the page that referred you, your approximate location (derived from your IP address), and the date and time of your visit.
Information you choose to include. Please do not include sensitive personal information, such as health details or government identification numbers, in donation notes or messages to us. If you do, we will handle it under this policy.
2. How We Use Information
We use personal information to:
process donations, send receipts, and keep the records that tax, accounting, and nonprofit laws require;
thank donors and send updates about the work their gifts support (you can opt out of these updates at any time);
respond to your emails and messages;
operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Site, and understand which content is useful to visitors;
detect and prevent fraud, abuse, chargebacks, and unauthorized use of the Site or checkout;
recognize donors or partners publicly, but only where you have agreed to it; and
comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, and protect our rights.
We do not use your personal information to build advertising profiles, and we do not use it for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or our donor lists. We share information only in these situations:
Service providers. We use companies that process information on our behalf or provide the tools we rely on: Double (donation platform), Stripe (payment processing), Framer (website hosting and analytics), and Google (email). They may use the information only to provide their services, and their own privacy terms apply to their role.
Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information to comply with a law, subpoena, court order, or government request, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AFU, our community, or others.
Organizational changes. If AFU merges, dissolves, or transfers its assets, donor and program records may be transferred to a successor charitable organization with a similar mission, which would be bound by this policy for the information it receives.
With your consent. We share information when you ask us to or agree to it, for example by allowing us to list your name as a supporter.
Aggregated information. We may share information that cannot reasonably identify you, such as overall Site traffic or the reach of our exhibitions, in reports and public communications.
In the past twelve months, we have not sold personal information or shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Cookies, Analytics, and Do Not Track
We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or social media tracking pixels on the Site. Our hosting platform, our donation platform, and its payment processor may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies that are needed to deliver the Site, keep your checkout session working, process payments, and detect fraud. You can control cookies through your browser settings, but blocking them may prevent the donation checkout from working.
Because we do not track you across other websites, we do not respond differently to “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signals. We treat all visitors the same way.
5. Third-Party Services and Links
The Site links to third-party services such as Instagram, and the donation checkout is operated by Double and Stripe. When you use those services, they collect and use your information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. We encourage you to read them before you share personal information.
6. How Long We Keep Information
We keep donation and tax records for as long as tax, accounting, and legal requirements call for, which is generally at least seven years. We keep messages for as long as we need them to respond and maintain our records. Analytics data is kept according to our providers’ retention settings. When we no longer need information, we delete or de-identify it, unless the law requires us to keep it.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including relying on a payment processor that maintains PCI DSS compliance and limiting access to donor records to people who need them. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
8. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Everyone. You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can opt out of donor updates at any time by using the unsubscribe option in a message or by contacting us. We may need to keep certain records, such as donation receipts, to meet legal obligations.
California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request a copy of the specific information we hold about you; to request deletion or correction of your information; to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (which we do not do); and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. In the past twelve months, we collected these categories of personal information: identifiers (such as name, email address, address, and IP address); commercial information (such as donation records); internet and network activity (such as pages viewed); and the content of your communications with us. We collected them for the purposes listed in Section 2 and disclosed them to the service providers listed in Section 3. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
Residents of other U.S. states. If your state’s privacy law gives you rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, or to opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or profiling, you may exercise them using the instructions below. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our response within 60 days, and we will respond within 45 days.
Visitors from the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. We process personal information on these legal bases: performance of a contract and our legitimate interests in running our charity, thanking donors, and keeping the Site secure (for donations and Site operation); legal obligation (for tax and financial records); and consent (for optional updates, where required). You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your information, to receive a portable copy of it, and to withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We are based in the United States, and our service providers process information there. When information is transferred from the EEA or the UK, we rely on approved transfer mechanisms, such as standard contractual clauses, where the law requires them.
How to make a request. Email us at artistsforunityinc@gmail.com with the subject line “Privacy Request” and tell us what you would like us to do. We may ask you to confirm your identity by matching information you give us to the information in our records. You may use an authorized agent, who must provide your written permission. We will respond within 45 days, and we may extend that period once by another 45 days if we tell you why.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Donors must be at least 18 years old, as described in our Terms of Service. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. People Who Appear on the Site
Our work documents antisemitism. The Site features photographs and statements of people who took part in our exhibitions, and screenshots of hateful messages and comments that were sent to our founder. In those screenshots, we obscure the names and profile photos of the senders, and we publish them to document harassment and raise awareness. We do not intentionally publish the contact information of private individuals. If you appear on the Site and would like content corrected, further obscured, or removed, email us at artistsforunityinc@gmail.com and we will respond promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will post a notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your information, contact Artists For Unity Inc in Irvine, California, at artistsforunityinc@gmail.com, or send us a message on Instagram at @artistsforunityinc.
